Intervention

WHAT IS AN INTERVENTION?

An intervention is a confrontational group process conducted to coerce an individual with a substance abuse or behavioral problem to enter a rehabilitation program for the dependent’s disorder.

Once the decision to intervene has been made, it is essential to thoroughly plan and prepare for the event. The interventionist will guide you through the planning and preparatory process and will, of course, be present during the intervention.

The process requires pre-arranging a meeting of significant persons such as: the family, friends, personal physician, employer, co-workers, minister or others who have closely observed the harmful effects of the dependent’s behavior upon his/her life. Remember that the primary goal of the intervention is to have the person accept professional help and agree to enter treatment at the conclusion of the intervention.
