FAM Program
FAMILY ASSOCIATION MEETING (FAM)
The hallmark of the SELF TC approach is its insistence that the entire family participate in the healing process. Towards this end, a family support meeting called the FAM is conducted monthly for all family members. This “Family Empowerment Program” addresses the needs of the families as they gather regularly at the FAM to attend seminars, workshops and phase group therapy sessions. The FAM has the following objectives:
1. To educate families about substance and non-substance dependencies.
2. To enlighten them about the principles and methods of the TC program.
3. To familiarize them on their role in relapse prevention.
4. To promote recovery from codependency that prevails in most families.
The Family Dialogue
Family Dialogues are another important tool. These facilitated encounters are used for the resolution of past conflicts. Spread over different phases of the program, they enable both the residents and their families to confront issues that have served as impediments in their relationship. The dialogues become opportunities for renewed family bonding.
Family Immersion
A deeper encounter with the TC process is afforded by Family Immersion. This mode of intervention allows family members to directly experience the TC with the residents themselves, and gain information about the TC program as well as invaluable insights into the recovery process. Even more transformational is the clarity and strength they gain from a first-hand encounter with the phenomenon of healing.
